Bunbury Energy is an Australian-owned and operated oil and gas exploration company with an ambition to contribute to future energy self-sufficiency for Western Australia’s important South West region.
After an extensive period of community consultation, in October 2017 the Company was awarded the EP496 Exploration Permit, centred around the Shires of Dardanup, Capel and the northern tip of Donnybrook-Balingup.
The Company is exploring for conventional gas in the South Perth Basin. Conventional gas developments are well-established in the northern part of the Perth Basin, with approximately eight different operators currently producing and delivering gas into the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline.
Bunbury Energy is well-funded to deliver on its commitments around being a long term partner in securing the future energy needs of the South West region, while continuing its proactive engagement with community, business, government and traditional owner stakeholders.
It is important for all stakeholders to recognise that Bunbury Energy’s current plans are focused on evaluating the gas potential within its project area through a carefully planned and managed exploration program. There is no proposal to develop a gas project in the region at present.
Bunbury Energy is currently preparing to undertake an aerial survey over a number of days in late 2018, the purpose of which is to identify which areas of the EP496 permit may be more likely to contain conventional gas deposits. This will allow the Company to then focus its exploration efforts over a smaller footprint when low-impact, non-invasive seismic surveying will be used to investigate areas of interest in more detail.
It is also important for stakeholders to understand that conventional gas exploration does not involve hydraulic fracturing, nor does the geology of the permit area lend itself to any development of that kind.
